It has been just AGES since I've posted, so wouldn't you just know it: I'm copping out and posting a meme. Yeah. Well.

Pick your five favorite TV shows (in no particular order) and answer the following questions. Don't cheat!

1. Better Off Ted
2. How I Met Your Mother
3. Bones
4. Avatar: the Last Airbender
5. Chuck

This shows an interesting reflection of how my tastes in TV have changed. A couple months ago, this would have been filled with House and Prison Break and yadda, what a drama-llama I was. Now it's all about the comedies.
Tomorrow I have my first ever job interview. Tim Hortons. Wish me luck.

New Layout

I got a new layout. I kind of love it to pieces. All the little... details... and the... pretty... and... *sigh*
And since I now have a permanent account -- such a blessing and such a curse (when my mom saw my Visa bill) -- I overdosed on icons. A lot of them. And it has been brought to my attention that, had anyone elected to be notified whenever I upload a userpic, I may have just broken their e-mail inbox. So... well, crap. I am so sorry. I suggest you remove that notification feature, though. I used to use it, but it got seriously irritating.
My N&D-related stress levels have gone way down, thanks to my realization of three things: a) even if "Night and Day" doesn't get picked up now, that doesn't mean it won't get picked up later in the year, because b) TNT is looking to introduce seven original hourlongs to the schedule for 2009, and c) TNT is known to pick up series sporadically throughout the year, not just at upfronts and similarly official-type events. So that's good news.
I watched "The A-Team" today. Dwight Schultz has a hell of a good singing voice. I also watched a ton of "Bones" episodes, and noticed that Father Scanlon from "Invasion" is in... y'know, that episode where Zack discovers graphic novels. The one with the dying kid who pretends to be a superhero, and works at a bowling alley. That one. You know the one.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, by the way. I'm not good about making obligatory greeting posts. My New Year was probably the most quiet I've ever had... I watched Tropic Thunder and The Duchess with my mom, and we ordered Vietnamese and indulged in some alcoholic beverage consumption. And by that I mean that I had a lime cooler. I'm not really a drinker. Tropic Thunder was a little crude for my tastes, but I laughed my head off at Tom Cruise's final dance number. That was amazing.
My train back to rez is on Sunday. Boo. I hate sleeping in the same room as another person.

Oh hai, I jumped up a spot on the list of top PB bloggers:
http://www.boxxet.com/Prison_Break/Section:top_blogs_news/
I'm a little more proud of that then I should be. Though I do object to the inclusion of "An Inane Tale From 4 AM"... that entry was pretty personal, and was not PB news in any way, shape or form.
That's all I had to say, heh. OH NO WAIT. I've discovered streaming after deeply mistrusting it for so very, very long. So now I'm taking a long hard (lol, dirty) look at my repertoire of television shows.
I currently watch three still-running shows:
1. Prison Break
2. House
3. Bones
... I know, I'm not very prolific. But yesterday, I watched the pilots to:
- Supernatural
- How I Met Your Mother
- Dexter
... and they were all pretty awesome. Actually, I watched the pilot of "30 Rock" too, but I did not enjoy it. I was surprised, everyone is all "OMG 30 Rock is the best!!1!" but I just didn't find it funny. I've started watching Dexter before but that was back when I had no DVR nor any inclination to download TV, so I fell behind and eventually gave up. But I love that show, so I am all over it now.
Are there any other shows that, IYO, I should start watching ASAP?

Son of a bitch. This is just not my day.
This day was going to awesome. Well, awesome by an average sort of standard. Thursdays, I have a Biology lecture at 10:30, and there's also a Chemistry tutorial at 2:30 but it's optional and I rock the chemistry hard so I don't go. I was going to waste all day building my fic community and making icons and banners and shit from PB 4.05, because Alex/Pam diner scenes ftw. (Side note: to me, 'ftw' doesn't sound like "for the win" in my head -- it sounds more like "fuck the whut". Trufax.)
Biology was good, as Biology generally is... but then I get home (back to Saugeen, I mean). And my computer. It's dead.
It's like... okay, at first I thought it just refused to turn on, but then I could see that the light was just very, very dark (like you might get if the laptop was hardcore saving energy). I would turn it on, strain my eyes and read the words "Preparing to stand by..." and then it would go into hibernate. Rather, rinse, repeat as needed. At one point, I got it turned on (and I brightened the screen by holding the power cord into the computer in a crazy vice grip -- which makes me think it probably has something to do with that connection there), and I started watching 'Bones' (Yes Moss, I did see Zack... was that what all the fuss was about? Jesus, you had me thinking there was gonna be some B&B making out or something). I got like three minutes in before it went into stand by again, and when I turned it on, the dark n' ominous screen kind of screamed and sputtered the Bones theme at me until I shut it down again in fear.
So I call the campus computer centre, but they can't look at it until next week. I'd like to see someone try to last anything close to a week in university without a laptop. There's no wiggle room. It can't be done. Next! I call up "Those Friggin Computers" (cute name). Nice guy on the other end, doesn't sound like he's ever had that problem before, but he's got more chance than I do of fixing it and hey! They're only (purportedly) 10 minutes away.
Went to my chemistry tutorial, found out it was optional, said "fuck this" and left.
I am kind of a public transit virgin (I've only ever been on a public bus twice before today) so I peer-pressured my roommate into helping me get there in one piece. She doesn't have the best track record, bus-wise, but she's a hell of a lot better than me. But of course, 'round about 3pm, we get on the Wellington Northbound instead of Southbound and we go on a nice little roundabout that brings us back to UWO, where Shannon gets off 'cause she's a quitter. The Northbound done with, I figured everything out and everything was cool, but I still didn't get there until ~ 5pm. So they're gonna call me tomorrow. Yeah, tomorrow. Did I mention I've got an online quiz that has to be completed by tomorrow at noon? Did I also mention that I'm stuck in a solid block of classes from 8:30 to 2:30 tomorrow? Finally, did I mention all my passwords and pins for gaining access to the online quizzes are on my laptop? And by the time I got back from "Those Friggin Computers" (hee), the financial services building was closed. No passwords... no pins... no online quizzes. Hey, there goes 1% of my final grade. I know that doesn't sound like much, but 5% more and my future in a Pathology major is seriously threatened.
I'm not even that bothered by that. I just hate the boredom that accompanies lack of access to my laptop. I really shouldn't be so dependent on it, but hey, what're you gonna do. I was so psyched about my icons, which are turning out really awesome (I have some icon skillz! Who knew?), but at this rate they won't be out before the next episode, and that is just not done.
And I can't relax to my tunes, because the little rubber things on my earbuds popped off yesterday in the general vicinity of the university community centre.
I know I know, I sound like something out of 'The Princess & the Pea', but girl can bitch if she feels like it. That's what journals are for.

Might as well get the whinging out of the way first. So. As I may or may not have mentioned, I'm going to the University of Western Ontario in the fall for a degree in Biological and Medical Sciences, specifically in Pathology & Toxicology, since I aspire to be a forensic pathologist. If you're unfamiliar with the UWO, it has a very good reputation in relation to other Canadian universities, perhaps only topped by McGill University (bleargh -- too much french, thnxverymuch). The BMSc program is almost unique in Canada -- pathology programs at an undergraduate level are practically unheard of. So, I'm very excited about this program. But, as it turns out? This may be THE HARDEST UNDERGRAD PROGRAM IN THE COUNTRY. I wouldn't know, I haven't experienced any of them, but the BMSc program is already quite stringent about admissions (it is the only program where entry into every single separate year is competitive). Added to that, Pathology & Toxicology has the highest admission cut-offs of any BMSc program. In order to be *competitive* (not a guarantee -- *competitive*) for entry into Year 3, I have to get at least a 95% average over all the core science and math courses. For entry into Year 4, the admission cut-off is 91%+ in Year 2 and 87%+. And I am quite understandably freaking out because my average in grade 12? Was 89%. And they say (you know, *they*) that your average is supposed to drop 13% from high school to university. Which means I am not only going to have to work my ass off, but that is *all* I am going to get to do. My life is basically going to be working, eating, working, sleeping (maybe), working, exercising, and working. And maybe that's true of any undergrad student, but I am literally not going to even have time to talk with people on the road between classes. Any functional relationships, romantic or platonic? Forget it. No time.
But -- you'll laugh -- I'm still trying to convince myself that I'll have time for 44 minutes a week to spend watching Prison Break. Oh, me. I crack myself up.
Who knew? I'm rather attached to what little semblance of a life I currently have.
So, in honour of the month or so of time I have left for hardcore time-wasting, I'm gonna do a meme. :D

Another Fictional Characters meme... )
absinthe_spoons: (Default)
Does anyone know any good memes? Not audience-participation, the easy question-and-answer ones.
I had a lot of fun with this one, but I may have taken it a lot more seriously than it was intended to be. Also, Sam Vimes has overtaken Alex Mahone as my favourite fictional character.

Meme here... )
Okay... well, that's all.

I decided to make some icons! My first icons! The first twenty or so were made for my friend Moss, since she is a David Boreanaz fan and a Bones fan. I'm a Bones fan too, so I tossed in those TJ Thyne icons. Then I went crazy with text-only icons, since they're easy and take about five seconds to make. I am such a slut when it comes to TV boyfriends.

01-16 David Boreanaz
17-21 TJ Thyne
22-34 Text-Only TV Boyfriends
25-42 Text-Only Misc. Quotes

Icons here... )
Ciao, bella.
